The Warrior Women of Dahomey had an immense impact on the Kingdom of Dahomey with their military service. Dahomey was a target for many African cities because it posed as not only a threat for power, but an economic threat. Dahomey rose to power because it expanded its territory through conquest. When Dahomey conquered a city they were able to sell their captives to the slave trade and add to their wealth. The Gbeto defended the city with the skills they obtained through training and made it possible for Dahomey to conquer other territories. They contributed their time, and some even lost their lives in the struggle. The slave trade plays an important factor in the history of Dahomey and of the Gbeto because it was a factor in the low population of men.
